
The newly elected President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Kemo Ceesay, has visited the Scorpions’ training camp to boost the team’s morale ahead of their opening AFCON 2027 qualifying fixture against Somalia.
Ceesay was accompanied by Youth and Sports Minister Bakary Y. Badjie, GFF Second Vice President Bakary Bojang, Third Vice President Demba Conateh, Secretary General Lamin M. Jassey and former Gambian international Seyfo Soley.

Welcoming the players back to Banjul, Ceesay thanked them for representing The Gambia and assured the team of the GFF’s commitment to providing the necessary logistical support for the players and technical staff.
He praised the players for their sacrifices over the years and said they could expect continued support from the Gambian public.
Ceesay also revealed that former international Seyfo Soley had been identified by the new GFF executive to help transfer his experience and positive character to the senior national team.

Minister Badjie commended the Scorpions for their unity, cohesion and dedication to national service, saying the government would support the team throughout its AFCON qualifying campaign.
He also announced that President Adama Barrow is expected to attend the match and has purchased a large quantity of tickets for Gambian fans to support the national team.

The Scorpions will host Somalia at the Independence Stadium in Bakau on Friday, 25 September 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 4pm GMT.
Head coach Jonathan McKinstry thanked the new GFF leadership for its commitment to football development and said the team was ready to produce a positive result against Somalia.
Captain Omar Colley congratulated Ceesay and his executive on their election and assured the new leadership of the players’ readiness for Friday’s home fixture.
