Gambian sprint Queen Gina Mariam Bass Bittaye crashes out of the women’s 100m at the Paris Olympics despite finishing third in the semi-finals.

Africa’s fastest female runner clocked 11.10 seconds in her heat but that wasn’t enough for a spot in the 100m final.

However, Gina Bass will compete in the women’s 200m which starts today (4 August).

Similarly, Ebrima Camara missed out on the men’s 100m final after finishing fourth. Camara, who is the Gambia’s 10 record holder, earlier won the preliminary round in his group.

Meanwhile, young Gambian prospect Sanu Jallow missed out a place in the 800m semifinal after finishing 6th in the Repechage heat 2.

This brings to an end the 21-year-old US-based Gambian athlete’s Paris 2024 Olympic journey.
