The Gambia government on Sunday published the expenditure list of its coronavirus Emergency Health Fund and it shows a large portion of the allocated 160 million dalasi was spent on non health related matters. 

The Finance ministry said in a statement “As of 1st May 2020, 160 million dalasi has been released to the Ministry of Health, which is the spending authority on all Covid-19 related matters. 

“The Ministry of Finance will continue to publish all future allocations and expenditures periodically.”

Of the allocated 160 million dalasi to the Health ministry, 41 million dalasi have already been spent. 

The list shows that 12.8 million dalasi was spent on vehicles, 2.3 million dalasi on travel expenses and 600 thousand dalasi on fuel and lubricants. 

5.5 million dalasi was spent on allowances while 352 thousand dalasi was spent on medical and hospital equipment such as ventilators. 3.6 million dalasi was spent on soaps, sanitisers and disinfectants. 

The largest expenditure was on hotel accommodations which amounted to 14.3 million dalasi. It is not clear whether it was spent on quarantined passengers entering the country.
