Gamworks has been summoned today to  explain to a government committee about the incompletion of Youna-Mariama Kunda road which was flooded on Saturday.

Roads and houses in the Greater Banjul Area were destroyed following flash flooding over the weekend.

Vice President Alieu Badara Joof, who visited the flooded areas yesterday, expressed dismay over the incompletion of Youna-Mariama Kunda road.

“We don’t understand what issues led to the incompletion here because this is a serious problem.

“This is not a simple problem, you can see it link of the two communities, Yunna and Mariama Kunda,” VP Joof said.

He continued: “Tomorrow we wil call Gamworks to our office and they will have to explain to us what happened and then we will have to send them here to see how best we can salvage the situtaion.

“This a concern to both the president and governemt and the local councils. As I said the president has been concerned thats why he set up this task-force committee to sort out this problem.

“As a government we cannot allow this system to continue. If people are contracted they must deliver the work on time.

“How can they be seating comfortably in their homes while other people are suffering. We will call Gamworks to explain why they could not finish the construction of the road [on time].”
