The Gambian government has placed Momodou Ceesay, the managing director of Gambia Printing and Publishing Corporation, on administrative leave as it initiates investigation into corruption and malpractices at the state-owned enterprise.

According to the government, this decision follows serious allegations of corruption and other administrative malpractices made against him by the new chair of GPPC board, Dr Alieu O. Faal.

“Given the gravity of these allegations, the SOE Commission considers it imperative to take immediate and decisive actions in accordance with governance and good corporate practices.

“Therefore, the SOE Commission has initiated an audit of GPPC to thoroughly investigate the allegations made by the board chair. To ensure that the audit is conducted transparently, objectively, and free from any potential interference, the board has thereby decided to send the managing director on administrative leave with immediate effect to maintain integrity of the process and uphold the principles of transparency and accountability,” the statement said.
