A group has set a date for a peaceful march to advocate what it calls “respect for the rule of law and accountability”.

The event is scheduled for Friday, May 23, 2025, following an application for a permit to hold the march.

The group, Youths in Defence of the Law, says it has applied for a police permit to hold the demonstration, which will begin at the gates of the National Assembly and proceed to the Ministry of Justice, where a petition is expected to be delivered.

Fallou Jammeh, the group’s chairperson, said they have requested a permit for the peaceful march on Friday, May 23, 2025.

“The purpose of this march is to advocate for respect for the rule of law and to call for greater transparency and accountability in national affairs. We intend to gather at the National Assembly and proceed to the Ministry of Justice to deliver a petition,” he said.

The group’s planned protest follows a youth-led demonstration organized by Gambians Against Looted Assets, which called for transparency regarding the sale of assets linked to former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh.
