The Gambia Tourism Board has warned landowners with undeveloped properties at the Brufut Heights Layout that they could lose their allocations if they fail to begin development in line with the conditions attached to their land.

The warning follows a recent monitoring exercise conducted by the GTBoard in consultation with the Brufut Heights Development Association, which identified a number of properties that remain undeveloped.

The GTBoard reminded landowners that their allocations are subject to terms and conditions requiring development within a specified timeframe.

It said failure to comply with those conditions constitutes a breach of the allocation terms.

The tourism authority has therefore urged affected landowners to commence development without further delay and comply fully with the conditions attached to their allocations.

The GTBoard warned that continued failure to develop the properties could trigger the applicable reversion clause.

This could result in the revocation and repossession of the land, subject to the relevant terms and conditions as well as applicable legal and administrative procedures.

The warning puts undeveloped plots within Brufut Heights, which falls within the Tourism Development Area, under renewed scrutiny as authorities seek to ensure that allocated land is developed in line with the objectives of the area.

However, the GTBoard said it remains open to landowners who are unable to begin development because of genuine circumstances.

Such landowners have been encouraged to contact the board promptly to discuss their individual situations.

The board said the notice is intended to support the orderly, timely and sustainable development of the Brufut Heights Layout and advance the broader objectives of the Tourism Development Area.

Affected landowners have been advised to contact the Gambia Tourism Board during normal working hours for further information and clarification.
