A heavy downpour on Saturday morning left homes submerged and businesses crippled as floodwaters swept through parts of Serrekunda.

The rain, which began around 7am, forced some commercial vehicles off the road and brought traffic to a standstill.

Residents were seen desperately scooping water out of their homes and pouring it onto the highway with buckets in a bid to fight back against the rising flood.

“Just look at our OIC road, it’s built without gutters,” Amadaou Joof told Gambiana.
