Henry Gomez, special adviser to President Adama Barrow, has told exiled former President Yahya Jammeh to “shut up” on trying to destabilise the country.
Jammeh has vowed his imminent return to rule The Gambia again in a speech to his supporters a fortnight ago.
However, Mr Gomez said Jammeh will never rule the country again, adding that the former president “just want a cheap popularity”.
“I have no problem of Jammeh coming back in the country, but for him to be a president in this country is out of it.
“Jammeh should be ashmed of himself for saying he will come and rule the country again after his brutal 22 years rule in the country,” he said.
“Yahya Jammeh does not want to come back. He is just bragging off. Because he knows that the justice [system] is here waiting for him to deal with him.
“Jammeh just want a cheap popularity so that people can say Babili has spoken again. He just want to cause chaos in the country
“Yahya Jammeh should leave the country in peace and shut his mouth up. His presidency days are over. He brutally ruled the country for 22 years and no one disturbs him,” he added.
