The National Assembly Committee of Public Enterprise felt unhappy with the management of Gambia Radio and Television Services for failing to appear with their financial statements for the years 2015-2017.
On Thursday, the state broadcaster GRTS appeared before the Public Enterprise Committee to present its financial statement but presented only its activity reports.
Speaking during the session, Hon. Halifa Sallah, chairman of Public Enterprise Committee said: “it’s not proper to present an activity report without a financial statement. An activity report gives a fair testimony of what the institution did and the financial statement should be an embodiment of the activities done through that year; we put them together to enable us to gage whether the finances actually reflect the activities that were taking place and weather these activities were in line with what is required by your policies.”
Hon. Sallah added that the activity report of GRTS tabled before the Committee a consolidated report manifesting two years which the financial statement for 2018 is yet to be presented.
Financial statements are connected and determined by activity report, he said.
He said: “we have reached a consensus that they will go back and reattach the 2017 activity report from the consolidated activity report.”
But the director general of GRTS, Abdou MK Touray said: “the activity report for both 2017, 2018 have been prepared but there is no financial statement for 2018.”
However, he assured the Committed that his board and management will take into consideration what was requested and prepare the financial report for both 2017, 2018 and appear before the Committee again.
He assured: “we will endeavor to separate the two reports to resubmit and present the activity report of 2017.”
