A huge crowd is currently gathering at Brikama to show their support and solidarity with opposition chairman Yankuba Darboe for standing in for them to condemn a government-backed operation to free the roads and streets of squatting and illegal structures.
Yesterday vendors clashed with police and the demolition team who were in the town to execute another demolition operation. The operation has been condemned by Brikama Area Council as illegally aimed at sabotaging the council works.
The crowd sang “Barrow and his government has inflicted pain on us” while some said “we need freedom.”
Speaking to Gambiana, councilor Jainaba Jobe said: “What I have to tell the government is to let Yankuba Darboe do his job. We are not here for partisan politics but rather we are gathered here to fight for our rights. We are sick and tired of the hands of this government, especially women vendors.
“What happened here yesterday is a violation of people’s rights and this is what Manneh and his team are doing. We are definitely tired from this operation.”
