The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) says the Gambia Action Party presidential candidate Alieu Sowe’s nomination was rejected due to forgery.

“The nomination of Alieu Sowe is hereby nullified by the Independent Electoral Commission due to fact that forgery has been detected on the support of nomination form.

“This is classified as offence of S.112 (a) of the Election Act,” Alieu Momar Njai, chairman of IEC said.

Mr Sowe was among dozens of presidential aspirants who filed nomination with the electoral body this week.
