The Imam of Serrekunda Gaddafi Mosque, Barham Jobe, has died on Tuesday at the age of 67.

Gambians have received the news of his sudden death with shock. 

The late Imam would be laid to rest on Wednesday morning, as tributes started pouring in for him.

President Adama led the tribute to the venerable imam and extended his condolences to his family. 

“Imam Jobe spent his life spreading the teachings of Islam, reconciling families, and promoting peace and social cohesion,” the president said in his message of condolences.

Many said the death of the renowned Imam and Islamic scholar is a great loss for The Gambia.  

Imam Jobe becomes the second high profiled imam and Islamic scholar to die this month after the death of former President of Supreme Islamic Council, Alhaji Banding Drammeh.
