Imam Ceesay has condemned Hamat Bah, the minister for Lands and Religious Affairs, for accusing some imams of using their pulpits to criticise the government.
Mr. Bah sparked outrage among religious leaders after publicly claiming that certain imams were using their Khutbas to attack the government, warning that such actions must stop.
In response, Imam Ceesay issued a strong warning to President Barrow and his administration, urging them to stop “belittling imams and religious leaders in this country.”
Criticising Mr. Bah, the imam said: “The Minister of Lands talks too much and has no respect for imams. He is not someone suited for a leadership role.

“He does not deserve his position because a Minister of Lands should have a deep understanding of the country’s geography. Additionally, he should be someone who understands religion,” he added.
He argued that imams have not incited citizens to overthrow the government but have merely been preaching God’s word and speaking out against social vices.
“I have never seen or heard of an imam in this country calling on citizens to remove a government. All they do is preach the word of God and remind people to do good,” he said.
