Imam Abdoulie Fatty has fired back at religious affairs minister Hamat Bah after he lambasted Muslim clerics to “stop inciting conflicts” in their sermons.

Mr Bah made the attack on Wednesday during a customary meeting with Muslim elders on Eid day at State House.

However, reacting to minister Bah’s comments, the renown cleric, Imam Abdoulie Fatty, urged him to stop talking about anything that’s related to religion ‘because he has no knowledge about the Islamic religion.’

“Let Hamat Bah keep quiet about anything that’s related to Islamic religion. Tell me one imam who has ever participated in all the problems that happened in the country? We only preach the words of God. We don’t preach conflicts. And in fact, the imams love this country more than you do and God will examine you for your deeds hereafter,” he said.

The religious affairs minister’s comments already sparked anger in religious circles as leaders and their followers.

Many of them have warned the minister to do away with divisive rhetoric against religious leaders and their followers and instead focused on job of serving the interest of the country.
