Imam Abdoulie Fatty has warned Gambian lawmakers that failure for them to repeal law banning female circumcision will lead to nationwide flouting of the law.
“We want to urge the MPs to fear God. If they don’t repeal this law, they will cause problems because we will embark on a campaign to get people to practice FGM and we see what they can do,” he said.
“Any MP who votes against this bill, we will campaign against you to ensure you lose your seat in the next parliamentary election,” he added.
He urged lawmakers to maintain silence if they do not know anything about the Islamic religion and its jurisprudence.
According to him, he has taken three of his daughters for female circumcision in Saudi Arabia, as he insisted that female circumcision is Islamic.
