The late MP and Educator Edrissa Samba Sallah who died on Saturday at his residence in Brusubi

Edrissa Samba Sallah, the former APRC National Assembly Member for Sami Constituency and longtime educator, has died.

The late MP who passed away on Saturday at his residence in Brusubi was laid to rest on Sunday September 7 in line with the Muslim burial rites.

He was also a lifelong educator and campaigner for social issues. He was the first headmaster of Karantaba Primary School and promoted education in the rural areas.

Mr Sallah was behind the ban on public smoking and won a WHO award for his campaigns. In the early 2000s he tabled a Private Members Bill against Public Smoking. The Bill which was passed into law will be enforced in October this year.

He is survived by three wives, children and grandchildren.
