The Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services has warned foreign journalists operating in The Gambia without the required permits or accreditation to cease their activities and regularise their status.

In a statement, the Ministry said it had received reports of foreign journalists and media practitioners covering events in the country without obtaining the necessary authorisation.

It reminded foreign journalists and media organisations that they must comply with The Gambia’s legal and regulatory requirements and obtain the relevant permits or accreditation before undertaking journalistic activities.

The Ministry said covering or attending public events does not exempt foreign journalists from these requirements.

It warned that individuals or organisations found operating without the required authorisation could face action under Gambian law.

The Ministry said the government remains committed to press freedom and freedom of expression, but stressed that these rights operate within the framework of the law.

Foreign journalists and media organisations seeking to work in The Gambia were urged to contact the Ministry through the appropriate channels to clarify requirements and regularise their operations.
