Members of The Gambia’s under-16 boys and girls basketball teams are set to return home to Banjul following a road accident in Guinea that left several players and officials injured.

The teams were travelling to Conakry for the FIBA Africa U16 Zone 2 qualifiers when the accident occurred on Thursday evening in Linsan, Kindia Prefecture.
Although no fatalities were reported, multiple individuals sustained injuries and were transported to the Kindia Regional Hospital for treatment. Health officials confirmed the injured have been stabilised and remain under medical observation.
The Guinean Basketball Federation, working in coordination with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and local health authorities, is overseeing efforts to ensure the delegation’s safe transfer.
Plans are underway to move the injured group from Kindia to the capital, Conakry, where repatriation arrangements will be made for their return to The Gambia.
“The team members injured in the accident are receiving treatment at Kindia Regional Hospital,” the Federation said in a statement. “Preparations are in place to transfer them safely to Conakry before their return to Banjul.”
While the exact timing and mode of transport have yet to be confirmed, medical personnel will accompany the delegation to ensure their safety throughout the journey.
