The Inter-media football championship has commenced in Banjul on Friday involving eight locally based media houses aimed at strengthening friendship and ties among journalists in the country.
The Gambia Press Union sponsored tournament includes Gambia Radio and Television Services, The Voice Newspaper, The Point Newspaper, Foroyaa Newspaper, The Standard Newspaper, Paradise Radio and Television, Star Fm and TV, and Afri Radio.
The opening match on Saturday was between The Voice Newspaper and The Point Newspaper at Sea View football ground at the Independence Stadium in Bakau and went in favour of The Point Newspaper, with a 3-0 over The Voice Newspaper.
Meanwhile, on Sunday Foroyaa Newspaper defeated the Gambia Radio and Television Services by 1-0 while The Standard Newspaper also defeated Paradise Radio and Television by 1-0.
Speaking at the opening match on Saturday, secretary general of the Gambia Press Union, Saikou Jammeh, expressed his delight about the championship, adding that the tournament “is meant to strengthen cordial relationship among Gambian journalists”.
The opening match was graced by young and veteran journalists including the president of the Gambia Press Union, Sheriff Bojang Jnr.
