Exiled former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh has accused Senegal’s government of illegally exploiting Gambian oil resources, alleging a conspiracy involving both current and former Senegalese leaders.

In a recent audio statement, Jammeh lashed out at Senegalese Prime Minister Ousman Sonko, claiming he is continuing the legacy of President Macky Sall by “stealing Gambian oil.”

He expressed disappointment in Sonko, who he said once claimed to reject corruption but is now “taking what does not belong to him.”

Jammeh accused President Adama Barrow of colluding with Senegal to drill and sell Gambian oil, saying the proceeds are enriching outsiders while Gambians continue to suffer from poverty and poor healthcare.

“If our oil had been used in The Gambia, people wouldn’t be struggling like they are today,” he said, warning of legal action upon his return to the country. “If Senegal believes in accountability, The Gambia does too.”

He also claimed Senegal stole Gambian weapons and challenged Sonko to return them if he is “truly sincere.”

Jammeh warned against any attempts to annex The Gambia, vowing to resist “with full force.” He accused Macky Sall of arming himself with foreign-supplied weapons, alleging possible involvement from Turkey and other international actors.

“You made people believe you are righteous, but you are stealing Gambian oil. If you are truly upright, return it,” Jammeh said, denying Senegal has its own oil reserves and questioning the timing of its recent drilling efforts.
