Former president Jammeh’s top aide, Lieutenant General Saul Badjie has sought forgiveness from Gambians in a video shared on social media.
The general, who is in exile with his former boss in Equatorial Guinea, also dismissed allegations that he betrayed Jammeh.
In the video, which could not be independently verified, the former commander of Republican National Guards is seen dressed in white robe performing ablution, praying and swearing on the Qur’an that he had “never done anything evil to former President Yahya Jammeh” – as he also rubbished claims he was taking money from the Central Bank.
General Badjie has been accused of committing human rights violations and crimes by dozens of witnesses who testified before the Gambia’s Truth and Reconciliation and Reparations Commission.
