The Gambia Centre for Human Rights Violations has intensified its call for the prosecution of exiled former president Yahya Jammeh.
The victims’ prosecution call came a day Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambadou vowed to arrest and prosecute Jammeh if he ever returns to the country.
In a news conference today at Kololi, chairman of the victims Centre Sheriff Kijera called on Gambians to support their call and pressure the Barrow government to act quickly in bringing Jammeh to justice.
“We believe the time has come for each and every citizen to stand up to demand more practical measures to be taken by government to bring Yahya Jammeh to Justice,” he said.
Mr. Kijera lamented that it is now three years since Jammeh was ousted from power through the ballot box but “until today we continue to be confronted by his crimes. The APRC party is ever getting emboldening and shamelessly in denial of crimes (of human rights violations) which were committed by Yahya Jammeh.”
He decried last week rally by the APRC demanding Jammeh’s return as “a mockery to the victims”.
The Victims Centre will holding a counter protest on January 23 to express their outrage.
