Dozens of mourners, including journalists, soldiers and family members, gathered on Friday to bid farewell to Mbaye Corr, who was laid to rest in his home village of Kerr Chandeh following his sudden death.

Corr, a reporter with Star TV and Radio, died on Thursday after reportedly complaining of chest pain and being rushed to a clinic.

His burial drew a large turnout, reflecting the impact he had both in the media and the military.

He also served in the Gambia Armed Forces, where he held the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Tributes poured in from various institutions, including the Gambia Press Union, the Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia and the Health Journalists of The Gambia, as well as representatives from Star TV/Radio and the armed forces.

Speakers described him as a dedicated professional who approached his work with commitment and humility. He was also remembered as a devout Muslim, known for his kindness, respectfulness and strong work ethic.

Emotions ran high as his body arrived in the village, with relatives wailing while some colleagues and fellow soldiers were seen in tears.

He was given a full military burial, with soldiers paying their final respects through a three-gun salute after his remains were lowered into the grave.

Family members, colleagues and community members described his death as a significant loss to both the media fraternity and the nation.
