The Gambia’s Draft Constitution is finally ready for reading before lawmakers at the National Assembly, Justice Minister Dawda Jallow has said.

It comes as the government published the draft constitution for the second time in the gazette.

“The Bill for an Act to Promulgate the Constitution of The Republic of The Gambia, 2020 and repeal the 1997 Constitution has been published in the Gazette for the 2nd time. The Bill will be ready for introduction into the @GambiaAssembly at least 10 days after 28th August 2020,” the Justice ministry tweeted on Tuesday.

The draft constitution which was supposed to be table before the parliament for approval in August faced some delays due to the coronavirus pandemic.

But the latest announcement by Justice minister Dawda Jallow has been welcomed by many Gambians who said it is long overdue.
