The Attorney General’s Chambers and Ministry of Justice has rejected allegations by the UNITE Party that the Local Government Commission of Inquiry report was altered after being submitted to the government.
At a press conference on November 3, UNITE alleged that the report had been amended after its submission to the government, raising concerns about the handling of the commission’s findings and the publication of the White Paper.
However, in a press release issued on November 4, the Ministry described the allegations as false and misleading, insisting that the report was published exactly as submitted by the commission, without government interference, amendments or revisions.
The Ministry also responded to UNITE’s claim that the report had not been officially gazetted, saying both the commission’s report and the government’s White Paper were gazetted on October 29, 2026, under Government Notice No. 211/2026.
It said printed copies were made available to the public the following day, while electronic versions were uploaded to relevant government ministry websites to ensure wider access.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, due process and the rule of law.
