Mama Kandeh has expressed strong optimism of unseating President Adama Barrow’s government in the upcoming 2026 presidential election.
Mr Kandeh made the comments during an official welcome of Julangel ward chairman Ebrima Baldeh who quit the ruling National People’s Party over “lack of trust” and joined the opposition Gambia Democratic Party.
Speaking to the gathering, he said: “They are afraid and everyone can see that in them. Let’s not fight, but 2026, whether they like it or not, GDC will go to State House.”
Meanwhile, he advised his party members not to be provoked by comments from their opponents, as he urged them to exercise their political rights within the laws of the country.
“Don’t listen to what they are accusing you of. They accused you of being a crook and dishonest person, but ignored their claims. They are afraid and everyone can see that in them.
“Let’s do away with politics that will bring division among ourselves, because today if I meet with Adama Barrow, we will greet and laugh together. So, let nothing push you to break the law.”
“Some people ask me why I didn’t join the president to develop the country, but I want to tell them that I established a political party before Adama Barrow became a president. Therefore, I didn’t form a political party to go against Adama Barrow,” he added.
