Mama Kandeh, leader of Gambia Democratic Congress, has slammed President Adama Barrow saying he betrayed Gambians “needs and aspirations” after failing to deliver his 2016 campaign promises.

Speaking at a rally in Brikama Jamisa, Kandeh urged the electorate to vote out Barrow in next week’s presidential election “to end their sufferings”.

“That’s why betrayal is not good. Barrow and his colleagues’ campaign to take this country and they promised Gambians and Gambians used to sit and wait for them in 2016 up to late hours to listen to his promises. But all he promised them, the day he took over power, he forgot all the undertaking,” he said.

“Now, it’s left to you Gambians, the suffering we are in now, if we want to end it, Adama Barrow and his government must be voted out.

“And I believe on 4 December if IEC declares a winner [it] will be Mamma Kandeh because I can see that in you people.

“If I look around you, I feel sad because the suffering you people are in today and how you people left your work to come and listen to Mamma Kandeh shows you people want to end the suffering,” he added.

However, Kandeh praised former president Yahya Jammeh saying: “Lots have been said here and our former president Jammeh spoke a lot and his words were very encouraging and nice. This shows the love he has for this country and it shows he still wishes good for this country. And his words show he is a true son of The Gambia.”
