Almame Gibba, national assembly member for Foni Kansala, has suggested only coalition would unseat President Adama Barrow, calling for unity among Gambian political parties to end National People’s Party rein in power in the upcoming presidential polls in 2026.
Gibba, a staunch supporter of exiled Gambian president Yahya Jammeh, urged Gambians to let go off the past events and focus on the future, which he said is the only way to end the challenges faced with the country by bringing the much needed developments.
“My wish is for the whole country to join and make an effective change and we forget about the past and focus on the future,” he said.
Meanwhile, he also charged the Barrow government over an attempt to reintroduce the draft constitution as a “self-centred constitution”. He vowed to vote against the draft if reintroduced in parliament.
“The constitution is butchered to favour themselves. It doesn’t make sense to go into consensus after spending millions of dalasi on drafting a constitution, which failed to make it through.
“The 2024 constitution is a self-centred draft law book that favours just those in government. Even if they bring down the sky, they cannot make this 2024 constitution pass through in parliament,” he added.
