National Development Party (NDP) leader Kebba Madi Bojang has accused officers of the Gambia Immigration Department of assaulting him during a confrontation in Tanji over the arrest of one of his political allies.

Videos circulating on social media show Mr Bojang lying on the ground surrounded by several immigration officers before he is lifted and bundled into the back of an immigration pickup truck.

The incident is linked to the arrest of Muhammed Raineys, who was detained days earlier and is reportedly under investigation by the State Intelligence Unit (SIU).

Speaking after the incident, Mr Bojang claimed he had attempted to explain to immigration officers that Mr Raineys’ documents had already been seized by SIU investigators.

According to him, the officers ordered him to leave the area before the situation escalated.

“So they started hitting me until at the gate of Muhammed,” Mr Bojang alleged.

The incident attracted dozens of NDP supporters to the Tanji Immigration office, where many condemned the manner in which the opposition leader was handled by the officers.

The Gambia Immigration Department has not yet publicly responded to Mr Bojang’s allegations or the videos circulating online.

The circumstances surrounding the confrontation remain unclear, and it is not immediately known whether any officers or civilians sustained injuries during the incident.
