The High Court in Banjul has on Thursday granted bail to rapper Killa Ace and six other youths asking each of the accused persons to pay the sum of 100,000 dalasi with two Gambian surety and surrend their travelling documents.

Presiding over the bail hearing Judge Basiru Mahoney said despite the case is yet to be heard at the High Court he will nonetheless grant bail to the accused persons with conditions.

Meanwhile, the accused persons were represented by lawyers Antuman Gaye, Lamin S Camara, Salieu Taal, Kombeh Gaye and Patrick Gomez while the State was represented by A. Yusuf and Muhammed Sowe.

After applying for bail for the accused persons, Lawyer Antouman Gaye also told the court that one Muhammed Fadia’s name was not on the list and applied that his name be included in the new list.

Killa Ace, whose real name is Alieu Cham, and the 6 other youths have been at the remand wing of Mile Two Prison for several weeks after they were arrested for allegedly taking part in the violent July 24 protest in which properties were damaged including the house of the police Anti-Crime boss, Gorgi Mboob.

Their case was last week transferred to the High Court in Banjul by the presiding magistrate at the Kanifing Magistrate Court after she recused herself from the case saying that it was a matter for the High Court due to the capital charge of arson.

Thirty other youths who were arrested for their alleged involvement in the protest have already been released.
