A government commission set up to look into corruption scandal in Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) will start hearings on Monday, Gambiana has been told.

Muti-million dalasis have gone missing from the council’s accounts that resulted in a rift between the chief executive officer Sainabou Martin and Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda.

The move by the Ministry of Lands and Local Government to set up the Commission has been strongly condemned by the opposition United Democratic Party. The party described it as politically motivated.

“The commission will start on Monday and it will be held at Dunes hotel, the same place where the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission was held,” a source who wants to remain anonymous told Gambiana.

It will be the third commission of inquiries since President Adama Barrow took power from longterm leader Yahya Jammeh in 2017.
