Mai Ahmed Fatty, leader of the Gambia Moral Congress, has defended the Barrow administration, accusing government critics of politicising the recent rise in bread prices.
In a video statement, the former Minister of the Interior said: “This issue of bread price increase is being over-politicised and exaggerated by government critics.”
Justifying the price hike, Fatty, who also served as an adviser to President Adama Barrow, explained that global wheat and flour prices have doubled due to ongoing conflicts, including the war between Russia and Ukraine and the recent conflict involving Israel and Iran.

“There is an increase in bread prices all over the world. It is not only in The Gambia,” he added.
