A man has been arrested by officers of the Senegambia Police Station after allegedly brandishing a pistol and threatening two men following a dispute in the Senegambia area.

The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday night and is believed to have stemmed from an earlier altercation involving motorists near Tropic Shopping Centre.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to Gambiana on condition of anonymity, the suspect and the victims had a confrontation before the situation escalated near Senegambia Junction.

“Something tragic happened tonight at Senegambia Junction when my cousin and I had an altercation with a driver at Tropics,” the witness alleged.

The witness claimed that while travelling towards Senegambia, a vehicle suddenly stopped in front of their car before occupants began insulting them.

“We later saw a boy sitting in the front seat pull out a pistol and threaten to shoot my cousin and me,” the witness said.

The witness credited the swift intervention of police officers and members of the public for preventing the situation from escalating further.

“We were lucky that the police quickly apprehended him and took him to the police station,” the source added.

When contacted by Gambiana, Police Public Relations Officer Cadet Assistant Superintendent Modou Musa Sisawo confirmed the arrest.

“I can confirm that the suspect has been arrested and is being held in custody,” ASP Sisawo said.

Police have not yet disclosed the identity of the suspect or whether the firearm recovered was licensed.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
