A young man who died onboard the stranded Kunta Kinteh ferry over the weekend is known to have come from Medina Serign Mass in Lower Niumi District.

The man, who is yet to be identified, was being transported to Banjul in an ambulance for medical emergency when the ferry encountered difficulties and got stranded for 12 hours. 

Senior officials of the Gambia Ferry Service told Gambiana that they didn’t know the name of the deceased, as his body has been taken back to his native village.

The Gambia Ports Authority officials have faced criticism over the incident with many asking the family of the deceased to sue the ferry management for what they described as “reckless action”.
