Marina International School has closed after four students tested positive for coronavirus.

The school has now been shut down for 14 days and all the teachers and students are asked to undergo a mandatory testing.

They are also asked to take online lessons until the issue is resolved.

Ousman Bah, regional director for education at the Kanifing Municipality Council, said: “We have been monitoring the situation and on the 1st of February, our cluster monitor who is posted to that school reported that they have a suspected case but the child is admitted at the Ndemban clinic but they are going to confirm if it is Covid.

“And yesterday in the evening I was called and informed that it was Covid and he has a sibling attending the school. They stopped the child from coming to school, so that he can isolate.

“Today they informed us in total they have four students who have been found positive [for coronavirus] from the same class.”

The school board took the unusual step to close the school and moved to online learning until Monday February 15.
