“It is not the ending we sought but as a federation, we’re very proud of the achievement of the Scorpions.

“We came here and everyone expected us to be the whipping boys and until today, we were the only underdogs not to have lost a match in this AFCON and it was our first goals we conceded in open play.
Quarterfinals apprerance in our first time of asking, is quite some achievement that is worth celebrating.

“To the amazing group of players, the GFF under the leadership of Lamin Kabba Bajo is saying a very big thank you and congratulations you for your historic participation in Cameroon.

“From the Coach Tom Saintfiet to our Head the Delegion Mr. Ebou Faye, Team Manager Ousman Cho Drammeh and to the and the government of The Gambia through the dynamic Honorable Minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Badjie, and our stakeholders as well as the Gambian fans, we say thank you to everyone for the wonderful achievement we made.

“You all showed love and affection to the team throughout our campaign and we’ve all seen how the power of football has united all of us on one purpose for the past three weeks.

“Let’s keep that spirit of one Gambianess and build on this achievement and hopefully we come back together as a better team in Ivory Coast in the summer of 2024.”
