Defensive midfielder Ebrima Darboe has said Gambia are ready to make a breakthrough in the AFCON tournament despite being placed in Group C along defending champion Senegal, Cameroon and Guinea.

The 22-year-old player said in interview with Gambia Football Federation (GFF) that they are committed to making Gambians proud of their team.

“We know that we are in a tough group but we will do our best and to archive all we want to make our people happy. We will not let our people down, we will give our best,”he said.

Darboe is currently on loan to the Austrian Bundesliga club LASK from Roma.

Gambia’s Group C is deemed by many as the group of death.

Last week, Senegal captain Sadio Mane said this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast will be the toughest compared to previous tournaments.

Gambia will kick off their opener against the defending champions and neighbours Senegal on Monday, 15 January.
