Malang Jarju, a 13-year-old boy, whose body was found days after being declared missing, has been confirmed to have drowned.
Police and family sources dismissed reports alleging that the boy was killed and dumped in a forest in Brufut.
Malang’s death coincided with another gruesome death of a man whose body was found in a bag dumped in woodlands in Brufut.
Police spokesman Lamin Njie told Gambiana, amid widespread rumours about the circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death, that an investigation was opened “into the matter of the missing child and search conducted in collaboration with the parents.
“On Sunday 25th April 2021, it was discovered that the boy had drowned and the body was recovered from a pond around Berending village.”
Meanwhile, Superintendent Njie urged community members, parents and care givers around the quarry where this pond is situated to be vigilant and employed due care by not allowing children to go swimming at the pond.
