Momodou Sabally will appear before a high court judge on Monday (14 November), according to a writ of summons seen by Gambiana.

In the summon, Gambian business tycoon and owner of Gach company, Abubacarr Jawara, accused Momodou Sabally of defamation and slander.

“You are hereby commanded in the name of The Republic of The Gambia to attend this court at Banjul on 14 day of November of 2022 at 11am o’ clock in the forenoon to answer a suit by Abubacarr Jawara of Kanifing Municipality The Gambia against you,” it said.

Mr Jawara is demanding that Sabally “issue an unreserved apology” to him “to be published in widely circulating national newspapers”. 

He is also demanding 8 million dalasis as damages for defamation and slander.

The business tycoon claimed that Sabally’s alleged defamation destroyed his business interests.
