Momodou Sabally, adviser to Gambian President Adama Barrow, has issued a stern warning to government officials and security personnel against supporting opposition members seeking to destabilise the country.
Speaking in Gunjur, Sabally condemned opposition attacks and threats against ruling party supporters and government officials, saying such actions must stop.
“This is the only country where the opposition will attack and threaten ruling party supporters and government officials. That must end,” he said.
He emphasised that public servants must be held accountable.
“If you are a public official and don’t want to do your job, we will fire you.”
Sabally also cautioned police and security officers that failure to perform their duties or backing those trying to undermine the country would lead to dismissal.
“If you are a police or security officer and don’t want to do your job or support those who want to destabilise this country, we will fire you,” he said.
He added that while officials are not required to show support for President Barrow, they must fulfil their responsibilities.
