Bakary Badji, National Assembly member for Foni Bintang, has called for the immediate sacking of Attorney General and Minister of Justice Dawda A. Jallow, denouncing the parliamentary committee’s recommendation of a mere reprimand as “inadequate.”

“What reprimand are you talking about? The Justice Minister should be sacked immediately,” he said, urging lawmakers to adopt a strong resolution to hold top officials accountable for the mishandling of assets recovered from former President Yahya Jammeh.

The call comes after a National Assembly inquiry recommended criminal investigations into former Attorney General Abubacarr M. Tambadou for systematic violations of the Public Finance Act 2014 and economic crimes.

The same report found that Jallow, who succeeded Tambadou, had perpetuated unlawful administrative arrangements in the disposal of state assets.

He criticized what he called “half measures” against Jallow and warned that failure to take decisive action would undermine public trust and weaken governance.

“The country cannot continue to tolerate administrative failures that jeopardize public finances and accountability,” he said, demanding urgent parliamentary intervention.

The committee’s report had highlighted a series of irregularities, including the disposal of recovered lands without proper legal authority, the exclusion of the Ministry of Finance from oversight, and the creation of parallel financial systems that circumvented statutory controls.
