Journalist Fatou Camara has broken her silence following GALA’s decision to withdraw a Heroes Awards nomination tied to comments she made about President Adama Barrow.

In a response, Camara accused critics of twisting her remarks, insisting that she never claimed the Barrow administration was free from corruption.

“First, I never stated that the Barrow Government is not corrupt,” she said, arguing that she had previously spoken about corruption allegations involving some government officials.

Camara clarified that her comments during the interview were directed at President Barrow personally and not his entire administration.

“In my interview, I mentioned that I do not believe President Barrow as an individual is corrupt, and I maintain that view based on my observations and knowledge,” she stated.

The veteran broadcaster also reacted to GALA’s decision to withdraw the nomination, saying the movement was free to do so since it had initiated the nomination itself.

According to her, the matter would not affect the operations of The Fatu Network or its coverage of the activist movement.

“Gala consistently receives significant media coverage at The Fatu Network, regardless of my views on their actions, because that reflects our professionalism,” she said.

Camara further defended freedom of expression, arguing that activism should accommodate opposing views rather than silence them.

“You cannot claim to be activists while opposing differing viewpoints,” she added, while maintaining that everyone should be allowed to express opinions freely without intimidation or restriction.
