The National Assembly’s Special Select Committee has officially summoned Alhaji Mamadi Kurang, former secretary to the Janneh Commission, to testify in its ongoing investigation into the controversial sale and disposal of assets linked to former President Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh.

Kurang, who played a key administrative role in the Janneh Commission, is believed to possess crucial information about how assets seized from Jammeh and his associates were managed and sold following the former president’s departure from office.

The summons, issued as part of the committee’s inquiry, reads: “You are hereby summoned to testify all that you know on the subject matter of the inquiry.”

It also warns that failure to appear or withholding information may amount to contempt of the National Assembly, an offence under Gambian law.

The investigation was launched following damning findings by the Commission of Inquiry into the Financial Activities of Public Bodies, Enterprises, and Offices.

The commission flagged serious irregularities in the handling and disposal of assets accumulated during Jammeh’s presidency, which spanned from 1994 to 2017.

The Special Select Committee, established on 14 May 2025, is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the asset sales and ensuring accountability in the aftermath of the Janneh Commission’s work.
