The National Roads Authority (NRA) has issued a public warning against the unauthorised installation of speed humps on roads across The Gambia, citing growing safety concerns.

The authority said it is increasingly concerned about individuals constructing speed control measures without approval on both existing and newly built roads.

The NRA warned that such actions pose serious risks to motorists and pedestrians, while also undermining established road engineering standards.

“Members of the public are strongly advised to refrain from installing or constructing speed humps without the explicit approval of the NRA,” the statement said.

The authority added that individuals found engaging in the practice will face penalties in line with existing regulations.

As the body responsible for road infrastructure nationwide, the NRA emphasised that it follows specific technical procedures in the design and placement of speed control measures to ensure safety and efficiency.

It noted that compliance with these standards is essential to maintaining a functional and secure road network.

The authority also called on the public to take collective responsibility in maintaining orderly road environments, stressing that proper road management contributes to safety, efficiency, and national development.

The NRA reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and reliable road network, adding that public cooperation remains key to achieving safer and congestion-free roads.
