Matarr Saine, mobiliser general for Team Bakary, has accused the National Sports Council of leaking the travel allowance letter of the minister of Youth and Sports Bakary Badjie and his wife Hawa Jobarteh.

Mr Saine claimed that “we know who triggered this and when he started to follow Bakary Badjie to see his fault and the WhatsApp group he created to talk about Bakary Badjie. 

“He is Saihou Saidyleigh, a United Democratic Party militant who lives in UK. We know where he got this information. He got it from the National Sports Council. The document was leaked by the National Sports Council.”

Mr Badjie is facing public backlash for paying his wife Hawa Jobarteh £200 per day travel allowance for 14 days to attend the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham  and Islamic Games in Turkey.

However, the minister promised to repay the money to the government today (22 August) amid accusations of corruption and calls for his resignation.  

The National Sports Council and Mr Saidyleih have been contacted for comment.
