The National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) has taken decisive action, terminating the services of its Treasury Manager and suspending its Director of Finance amid serious allegations of fraud.

The Gambia Police Force has launched an investigation into the matter, which stems from a leaked telephone conversation involving the Director of Finance and a purported Indian businessman.

The conversation reportedly detailed unauthorized financial arrangements, raising concerns over potential misconduct.

In an official statement, NAWEC explained: “The decision to terminate the Treasury Manager and suspend the Director of Finance follows allegations of serious misconduct, including a phone conversation between the Director of Finance and a supposed supplier. The conversation involved unauthorized financial transactions that breached company policies and ethical guidelines.”

NAWEC reiterated its firm stance against unethical practices, emphasizing its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of transparency, accountability, and the safeguarding of company resources.

This move underscores NAWEC’s commitment to integrity and its zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. The investigation is ongoing, and further updates will follow as the matter progresses.
