The Gambia has welcomed its first direct flight from Italy, operated by the Italian leisure airline Neos Air, in a move seen as boosting tourism and international connectivity.
The inaugural flight landed at Banjul International Airport on Wednesday, 1 April 2026, where it received a ceremonial welcome from tourism and aviation officials.

Representatives from the Gambia Tourism Board, Gambia International Airlines, the Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, Air Reps and Neos Gambia were present to receive the flight, alongside other stakeholders in the sector.
The arrival was marked with a cultural reception at the airport, highlighting the country’s hospitality and signalling the importance of the new route to the tourism industry.
Officials say the introduction of a direct connection between Italy and The Gambia is expected to strengthen travel links and attract more European visitors, particularly during the tourism season.
The development forms part of ongoing efforts to expand the country’s international air network and position The Gambia as a competitive destination in the global tourism market.
