A 47-year-old Nigerian man, John Peter Ozioma, was arrested at Banjul International Airport after authorities discovered four parcels of suspected cannabis ruderalis, commonly known as skunk, concealed in a car filter.
This arrest represents a significant development in The Gambia’s ongoing fight against drug trafficking, raising concerns about the increasing presence of illicit substances in the region.
The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has been actively conducting operations to combat drug-related crimes, resulting in a series of arrests over the past week.
Ozioma’s case is one of several involving individuals apprehended with various types of controlled substances, including cannabis sativa and ecstasy pills.
Authorities emphasised the importance of these arrests in curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding communities.
“We are committed to dismantling these networks and ensuring that those involved face justice,” DLEAG said.
As investigations continue, Ozioma remains in custody, awaiting further legal proceedings.
