National Unity Party (NUP) has announced Abdoulie Ebrima Jammeh as its leader and presidential candidate for the 4 December presidential election.
Mr Jammeh was unanimously elected by the party’s executive committee.
In a statement the party said “this development came about following a vigorous and thorough search for a competent and passionate presidential candidate in recent months,” the party said in a statement.
“To set the standards, a resolution was adopted at inception that none of the founders shall vie for the positions of Party Chairpersonship or Presidential candidacy.
“This philosophy of the party projects and portrays that the true membership of the body rests entirely on the collective entity of its bona fide members and not on any one individual.
“The NUP governance framework will be guided by democratic values and principles which will be vigorously upheld and practised both at the organisational level of the party and supported and sustained at the national level of government.”
Mr Jammeh was the Director General of The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) for over 9 years and had 35 years experience in the public service.
